Technical details
We use the name MagO as the panels are made from magnesium-oxychloride ceramic-cements that are formulated for excellence in withstanding stresses that buildings are subjected to. Water, freeze-thaw, fire, mould, and impact damage are all resisted.
MagO Cladding Details
- MagO Cladding panels are 15mm (5/8 in.) thick and come in standard nominal sizes of 4x4, 4x2 and 2x2 ft. Actual coverage per panel is 1180 x 590 mm, 1180 x 1180 mm, and 590 x 590 mm.
- Panels can be machined for horizontal or vertical orientation; they cannot be interchanged.
- Each panel side is machined with either a Top or Bottom profile, which mate with the aluminum base rail and clips, and provide a ship-lap connection from panel to panel.
- Corner pieces are not required as a field cut edge will mate with the adjacent panel Bottom profile.
- Clips have the same profile as the base rail and are supplied in 10 cm pieces, the length may be increased to provide greater connectivity strength. The clips mate with all sides of the panels, so all sides of the panels can be attached to the sheathing for greater wind load resistance.
- The clips have been tested when fastened to the structural sheathing, there is no requirement to find the studs.
- Custom-sized panels are available, up to 4 ft x 8 ft.
- Panels are provided primed, painted, veneered with 3M Di-Noc, coated with stucco, or powder coated.
- MagO Cladding Panels are made from magnesium oxychloride ceramic-cement, which does not contain carcinogens or VOCs. Dust masks should be used when cutting but unlike Portland cement-based panels there are no requirements for fresh-air respirators.
- MagO Cladding Panels are non-combustible as per ASTM E136 and CAN/ULC S135
- MagO Cladding Panel joints are available with a micro-bevel and 3mm gap to facilitate seam caulking, square edge tight-fitting panels, or a 10mm channel reveal.
- Standard 2x4 ft MagO Cladding panel weighs just 12 kg (27 lbs), easy for one worker to install.
- 3 types of insulation are featured that can provide a range of performance to meet the most stringent building-codes, up to and including net-zero, sometimes referred to as “Passive House” construction.
- Panels are supplied primed on all surfaces and edges; they can be finished with a wide range of products which provide almost unlimited appearance options. Wet-coat paints, stucco, 3M Di-Noc films, powder-coat baked on finishes, stone-coat, etc. have been tested on mago panels.
- MagO panels are made from natural materials that are commonly used as health supplements, they have no harmful ingredients, no VOC’s, carcinogens, or other toxins are found in our panels.
- MagO panels have been tested for sound transmission and found to be excellent at reducing it. When coupled with VIPs they would be even more impressive.
- MagO panels are sustainable with a low carbon footprint and are easily re-used, re-purposed or, at the end of their life, powdered and used as soil amendments as plants need magnesium too.
Coatings and finishing
MagO Cladding panels have been tested with a variety of finishes providing a wide range of appearances. They come primed and may be finished on-site as long as the edges are sealed before installation. The highest quality would come from factory finishing panels prior to installation.
All coatings and adhesives should be tested before application.
